For our Genmaicha we use a special blend of premium Sencha, some Sencha Karigane, and Japanese mochi-gome (Mochi Rice is hulled, short-grain glutinous white rice with mild, sweet flavor). This combination of ingredients gives the tea a savory fragrance with a light umami taste and harmoniously nutty, toasty flavors. Unlike a lot of Genmaicha available, for our tea we don’t use low-grade Sencha like second-harvest or even third-harvest tea, only first-flush tea. The Karigane gives the tea a light plain sweetness. The roasted rice is made of Mochi-kome (glutinous rice) which is known for its mild and sweet flavor. Unfortunately for a lot of Genmaicha, not even Japanese rice is used and as lower the Genmaicha quality is as lower the amount of tea leaves used.

About Genmaicha:
Genmaicha, means literally “brown rice tea” in Japanese and is a mixture of usually high-quality Sencha leaves and roasted popped brown rice kernels. The tea has a savoury fragrance and a nutty flavor. The tea can be consumed at any occasion.
of the charms of Genmaicha is the very light-taste and smell. For Ochatsuke (rice in green tea) Genmaicha is the tea of choice.
