Superior Sencha is specially selected and carefully picked by skilled hands. Such tea leaves have a remarkably intense aroma that is far superior to machine-picked leaves. Made from Yabukita tea leaves grown on the picturesque hills of Watzuka Town, just south of Uji City. The leaves are masterfully processed into beautiful, spindle-shaped and heavy, dark and fragrant tea leaves. A main characteristic of Sencha from Uji is its refreshing taste and, compared to other cultivation areas in Japan, its light color.
No.21 - Saijō Sencha
About Sencha:
Sencha is the most commonly cultivated and consumed type of Japanese tea. The tea plants are not covered and therefore exposed to a lot of sunlight, which gives the tea a lively and clear flavor. Because the leaves traditionally grow in full sunlight, Sencha contains more of the positive nutrient catechin than other green teas, giving the tea leaves a yellowish green color. Nowadays, Sencha leaves are also covered in the last days before harvest to suppress bitterness and astringency.
